Lip piercings require both external and oral aftercare. Clean the outside twice daily with sterile saline solution. Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash after eating. Avoid spicy, acidic, or very hot foods initially. Don't rotate or twist the jewelry, and don't play with it with your tongue.
Follow the guidelines, and your lip piercing will heal beautifully over the 3-6 month healing period.

A vertical labret enters at the bottom of the lower lip and exits through the top of the lip itself—both ends are visible, and nothing sits inside your mouth. This makes vertical labrets better for dental health but more visible.
